He stared out the window, watching the leaves swirl in the wind. The landscape felt hostile, the familiar trees transformed into menacing shapes. Mr. Garcia felt pinned, unable to escape the feeling of unease that had settled upon him. A knock echoed through the empty house.

It was a former student, a young woman named Lily. She held a small, antique music box. “Mr. Garcia, hi. I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to show you this.”

He unlocked the door. Lily smiled, a little nervously. The music box sat on his coffee table. She offered it to him. “My dad just passed, and this was his. He always said, you inspired me.”

He carefully opened the box, the delicate chime that filled the silence only worsened his rising apprehension.
